Hoosier Rotarians help Nepali school Children

Rajdhani (Nepal) Rotarians distribute school books and supplies financed through funds from The Rotary Foundation and members of the Muncie Sunrise Rotary Club

Two Rotarian clubs working  together provide school children  in  Nepal  with books, supplies and uniforms

Participating in the Matching Grants program of The Rotary Foundation is an excellent way to demonstrate how Rotarians around the world can join together for the common good of those in need. For example, the Rotary Club of Muncie Sunrise has several Matching Grant projects in the works. One project recently completed combined their club with Rotarians in Rajdhani, Nepal to help provide education materials, uniforms and school fees, plus family planning.

A report sent by the Nepali club states that Nepali Rotarians have begun the distribution process and have already provided these supplies to fifty-two girls. Says Barbara Maves (Muncie Sunrise), "In Nepal, many parents do not end their girl children to school due to inadequate income for books, supplies, and uniforms. When family resources are limited, boys are favored for education. This project was chosen by the rotary club of Muncie Sunrise in Indiana and the Rotary Club o Rajdhani in Nepal because we know that educated women not only bring skills to improve their community and country but they are also major educators of their children." Project total: $11,300] .

Rotarians in Anderson, Attica-Williamsport, Brownsburg, Connersville, Greenfield, Noblesville, Sheridan, Indianapolis, Lafayette, Lebanon, New Castle, Rockville, Rushville and Zionsville are currently involved in similar Matching grant projects around the world, demonstrating Rotary's motto of "Service Above Self.
